The Advent Wreath

I'm so excited about this Christmas season because Sawyer is really enjoying learning about Jesus and Santa Claus. I'm trying to focus on the fact that it is Jesus' birthday and not just on the man in the red suit. I'm also trying to establish some traditions for our family at Christmas and the Advent wreath is one of them.

I had mentioned it at Thanksgiving while Mom was here so she went online and ordered us one. It arrived just in time for the first Sunday of Advent. Sawyer had fun blowing out the first candle. It is a great way to count down to Christmas and also work on colors since there are three purple candles and one pink.

I also bought an Advent calendar with the twenty-four doors with chocolates inside. We open one each day either after breakfast or during his morning snack. He of course wants to open an additional one, but I keep reminding him that we only open one a day. It is a great way to teach patience and also counting. Who knew that Christmas could be so educational?
