It's A Small World After All

I was leaving church this evening and the strangest thing happened. It went a little something like this:

I felt a tap on my shoulder so I turned around and a woman asked me, "Is your name Kelly?"

"Yes," I replied. I figured she was from Curves or maybe she'd seen me at Weight Watchers or on the poster there since I was a poster girl BP (before pregnancy). I was surprised that I didn't recognize her though because I am pretty good with names and faces which I will prove a little later.

"Are your parents named Al and Pat?" she asked. Now I was really confused. How could she know my parents? I mean, I know my dad probably knows someone in all 254 Texas counties, but even this was a stretch!

Anyway, she told me that her name was Barbara and she was married to one of my mom's cousins, I think is how it went. She said that she was at our wedding and recognized me. She lives in Katy but her daughter lives in Sachse which is right next to Wylie. Her daughter is a teacher in Plano. She is pregnant (it's the Collin County water, I'm telling ya) and due in December.

It was a really neat experience, but caught me off guard because it was so unexpected. Now I know how people must feel when I come up to them. I will never forget my sophomore year at A&M when I was at the Post Oak mall. I recognized a girl from Bellville that I had met at 4-H camp my freshman year of high school. I asked her if her name was Paige and she said yes. I could tell at that point that there was not an ounce of recognition in her face and she didn't know me from the man in the moon. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't stop me from going up to people to this day! I'm too much like my father not to. It's really a curse actually because I just can't help myself.

Lorne and I had another fun day today. We finally found a cross-stitch project for me after going to Hobby Lobby, Michael's and Jo-Ann's. We looked last night too and I actually bought one, but I like what I got today much better. It's the baby's name with animals corresponding to the letter (the K has a kangaroo, for example). I'm hoping to finish a letter a day. No, I won't tell you how many days the project will take, don't even try it! :) My plan is to finish it before he graduates from high school. :) It's part of an entire book of patterns for baby so I can always do others if I want. We also bought a book of pictures of baby animals that are too cute. I think I'll do the elephant, zebra, and probably the chimpanzee to go along with his crib set and the safari theme if I stay motivated. (I won't hold my breath!)

I'd better go. We're TiVOing the Nextel All-Star NASCAR race so that we can watch it without commercials. It's a deep dark secret that I watch NASCAR so don't tell anyone if they ask because I will deny, deny, deny! :)
