It Wasn't Mashed Taters, but

Sawyer had his first cereal Saturday. It didn't appear that he was overly impressed. He seemed to have spit most of it out. I made it pretty watery so that the consistency wouldn't completely freak him out. Lorne fed him in the morning and he's usually pretty full then so we tried again yesterday evening because my supply is generally lower then according to what I've read. He didn't really seem much more receptive but it's still early. I know we're supposed to do only cereal for a week. I'm trying to find out when I can start jarred foods but I haven't found a definitive answer. I'm going to keep reading and also ask some of my friends who know more than me about this sort of thing than I do.

He was more interested in his foot than the cereal.

I think he was glad that we finally stopped bothering him!

Cereal take three!

He was happier about the whole situation yesterday.

He also had some great naps this weekend. It didn't start out that way though. He cried for an hour Friday before I gave in and let him sleep on me in the glider upstairs. I was so worried because Lorne's parents were here and I was afraid that they were thinking that I was a horrible parent. He rolled over onto his tummy on Saturday morning while he was crying his lungs out and that immediately quieted him down. I thought I'd experiment so I put him on his tummy Sunday morning. He cried about fifteen minutes and went to sleep for over an hour. That afternoon I did the same, he cried for about five minutes and slept over two hours. It was awesome! He didn't cry at all this morning and he's been asleep for about thirty minutes. I'm still worried about SIDS because I should keep him on his back until he's six months old from what I've read. It does mention that he will begin to roll over himself and that I shouldn't disturb him once he does. Lorne is worried that he will want to start sleeping that way at night too which worries us because we won't be able to monitor him like I can during the day. I hate to mess with his nighttime routine since he's sleeping at least nine hours these days.

We finally decided when we're coming down for Christmas. We'll leave on the 16th or 17th and stay until the 27th or 28th. I'm trying to decide what to do with Sawyer. I don't know if I should wean him before we leave so that we can do formula on the road and while we're there. I can tell as I'm typing this that isn't something that I want to do. I know that he'll be six months old by then, but I think it might be overwhelming for him to wean and travel around the same time. I wish that there was a right or wrong answer on what to do. I hate to wean just to make the drive down easier and just because he's six months old now. Once again I think that I will talk to some of my friends and see what they think or what they did.

We went shopping Saturday while Larry and Velma were here. I actually nursed Sawyer in the Tahoe in the Sam's parking lot. Lorne said that I was a walking Dairy Queen so we might as well take advantage of it. I was surprised at how well it worked out. I really don't take advantage of the convenience of breastfeeding while I'm out. I just run errands until it's time for him to eat again and then we head home. I may have to do that again, especially once we start our Christmas shopping. We normally do all our shopping in one day. I can't imagine that working out this year but I guess we'll see.

Poppa read to him from his new book
