Long Time, No Type

I finally sit down to catch up on my blog and now the program that I use to upload pictures is down....grrrr! I guess that I will add some pictures once it starts working again.

This week has really flown by it seems like. It has been kind of crazy around here because Rosie has been sick. She has pancreatitis and gastroenteritis. I have no idea if I spelled those correctly! :) She is doing much better today though. She's keeping food and drink down so that's a good sign. The vet thinks that it probably started from her eating brisket from this weekend. She said that some dogs just can't handle the greasiness of brisket. I know that Rosie has had brisket in the past, but I guess this was just greasier than normal. I went ahead and had them do her yearly X-rays. They showed that the hip dysplasia and arthritis haven't gotten better, but they haven't gotten worse either. We're going to continue her on the special food and the chewable tablets daily. We'll also continue with the Adequan injections as needed.

Larry and Velma came to see us this last weekend. They were such a great help with the nursery. Lorne and Larry put up the wainscot, chair rail, and crown molding. Velma made the curtains. I don't have pictures yet because Lorne still has to do a final coat of paint and this week has been crazy, as I've already mentioned. He and Larry had quite a time since the weather wasn't cooperating. They had to cut all the wood and do all of the painting in the room since it was so rainy and cold. Of course it cleared up on Sunday and hasn't rained since. Doesn't that always seem to be the case?

I know that Sawyer is glad that the weather has improved. He and I were stuck inside for five days last week and it was pretty rough. I was running out of things to do with him I felt like. Luckily I'd stashed away a few of his Christmas presents, so I opened them throughout the week. He just kept saying go, bye-bye, and car. I felt bad for him because I couldn't explain why we were stuck inside for so long. I stayed inside even when the weather started to improve because I just didn't want to risk being out and having an accident.

I'll post some pictures just as soon as I can!

Lazy Kelly

Okay, so maybe lazy isn't the correct word. I should say that I am Distracted from Blogging Kelly. We have been so busy around here that I have put blogging on the back burner. Trust me, I am back and promise for at least one post a week from here on out. There are three other new posts under this one with lots of pictures.

We spent nine great days in Van Vleck over Christmas. We had such a good time and got to see so much family while we were there. I was so glad that I got to be there for Strudel Day with Nanny. That has become one of my favorite Christmas traditions. It's great that we were able to have a long visit since our next trip there will more than likely be the summer at the earliest.

We rented a U-Haul trailer to get all of our goodies back to Wylie. Our families were more than generous to us this year. We also had some baby gear that I got from Jackie, our luggage, and Rosie, so we were pretty loaded down. We got home on a Thursday and I think it was Sunday night before I could see the pool table or dining room table again.

We have been busy buying paints, trim, and fabric for the nursery. This past weekend we cleaned out three closets, Lorne cleaned out the attic, and I mostly entertained Sawyer. We would probably only need one weekend to get organized around here if Sawyer wasn't around, but I'll take the little guy getting into everything over efficiency any day.

I had a pre-natal appointment on Thursday of last week. Everything is going just perfectly and I couldn't be more pleased with this pregnancy so far. I am thirty weeks along and have gained eighteen pounds. I continue to be proud of myself. I only gained one pound since my previous appointment which was two weeks prior. I'm still not quite sure how that happened, but who am I to question? I am feeling her kick more and more now. I think that is definitely the best part of being pregnant. Maybe not when she's kicking in the middle of the night, but a great part nonetheless.

I started my cross-stitch last week so we all know what that means...we have a name! Before anyone asks (I'm talking to you, Mom!), we're not telling how many letters, what letter it begins with, or any such nonsense so don't even try! I only have a little more than nine weeks to stay mum so let's see if I can. We had Sawyer named six months before he was born and kept it a secret, but I was much less scatterbrained at that time in my life I think. If I slip I slip, but my goal is to keep it a secret until the big day.

Sawyer is Nineteen Months Old!

Sawyer's world has changed quite a bit recently. We moved him to his toddler bed on Sunday. Lorne assembled the bed last weekend and set it up in his crib's former location. I would go upstairs with him from time to time so that he could play on it and get used to it being in his room. I also moved the softer mattress into his crib a few weeks ago so that he could get used to sleeping on something other than concrete. The concrete mattress will remain in the crib for the baby girl.

We made sure to babyproof his room before setting him free. Lorne moved the changing table into the new nursery. He also screwed the bookcase to the wall. I organized his books so that only board books are on the bottom two shelves, and installed outlet plugs. The glider has a lock feature so I make sure to engage that before he goes to sleep. He sleeps with his door closed, but I still make sure to close the stair gate. I imagine it will become more challenging when he learns how to open his door, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

He has done really well with the transition so far. He wasn't too keen on naptime Monday, but I think that was because we met Kristy and Cate for lunch so his naptime was pushed back a bit. He also took a catnap in the car, and that usually affects the quality of his naps. He's still sleeping the same amount at night, too, so we're keeping our fingers crossed on that front. I just feel so bad about moving him because it wouldn't even be an issue if there wasn't another baby on the way. He has shown no desire to climb out of his crib and that's usually the main reason that kids are moved in the first place. Lorne's going to keep the crib in Sawyer's room until he finishes in the new nursery to save on space.

His newest words include RoRo for Rosie, go, car, and cracker. Him saying car is pretty amusing when we're driving down the freeway because he feels the need to identify all of the vehicles he sees. He says go and grabs our hands when he wants to haul us around the house which is pretty amusing, but can quickly wear us out! Any dog that he sees is a RoRo. He says cracker for anything from Goldfish to Animal Crackers. We're working on learning more body parts. He is currently pointing to his nose, ears, teeth, tongue, toes, fingers, eyes, belly button, tummy, and hair.

Sawyer seems even more attached to George since moving to the toddler bed.

I love to watch him inspect things.

Is this a cheesy grin or what?

One more with the bear.

Happy New Year!

Jeremy, Denise, and Sophia joined us on New Year's Day for our traditional meal. I prepared ham, black-eyed peas, cornbread, and turnip greens. They brought a cheese tray, sausage, and crackers, and a chocolate cloud cake for dessert. We exchanged gifts and had a fun evening.

We got Sophia the V-Tech Alphabet Train Station, Denise a Columbia jacket, and Jeremy a video game and some accessories for mixing drinks. They got Sawyer the Elmo Tool Bench, Lorne a gadget for networking his printers, and a ceramic Christmas tree for me. I was so excited as I opened my package. I have always wanted one like the one our Nana put out each year. It got lost or thrown away or something when she moved from her house to the nursing home. I can't wait for next Christmas so that I can have it on display.

Sawyer helped Denise open her present from us.

Then he helped Jeremy do the same.

Lorne with his gift. I thought that Jeremy's message was cute!

Sawyer with his new Elmo Tool Bench.

Sophia had just as much fun playing with the Tool Bench as Sawyer.

Sawyer's Second Christmas

Sawyer's second Christmas began at Nana and Poppa's house. He played with his Santa gifts while stealing bites of pig-in-a-blanket from Nana. We opened stockings and then began opening gifts. He was kind of excited about that for a while, but when he started to fuss we decided that he wanted more breakfast. He ate in his booster seat while we opened our gifts.

Here's a close-up of the little man. Mimi got he and Kayla matching outfits for Christmas.

Sawyer really enjoys listening to us play his xylophone.

Sawyer's next stop was Uncle Matthew and Aunt Jackie's house. We had seafood for lunch, opened gifts, and had a great time. We really missed Dad and Aunt Tisha, but I think that we made the best of it. Sawyer walked around in his Elmo Tool Belt for most of the afternoon. He also wore some red cowboy boots of Kayla's so he was quite a sight.

This is the cross-stitch that I sewed for Kayla.

Lorne seems to always have this affect on Kayla. It's too funny!

Sawyer had a blast helping everyone open their presents.

Mimi with one of her Christmas presents.

Sawyer loves his Elmo Tool Belt. He has gotten really good at taking out and then replacing all of the tools. Thanks Uncle Mark and Aunt Darbi!

Sawyer's next stop was back to Nana and Poppa's. Uncle Ty, Aunt Jamie, Brittany, Tyler, and Jordan came for supper and to open gifts. We had chicken spaghetti, manicotti, bread, and salad. We played Trivial Pursuit after opening gifts. Sawyer once again enjoyed opening the presents.

Sawyer got the Elmo Giggle Chair from Uncle Ty and Aunt Jamie and their kids. He really enjoys using it to climb onto other objects too.
